The majority of traders participating in the commodity markets are private individuals of one kind or another.

Almost all of these traders lose money because they do not possess the know-how or software resources enjoyed by professional traders.

The professional system traders scoop all of the profits made in the commodity markets.

This is not really surprising because they have been learning and developing their systems trading techniques for over half a century, during which time they have amassed a great deal of knowledge that has been incorporated into the methods they employ.

Computers are immensely faster and cheaper than they used to be and this has enabled systems traders to test ideas more comprehensively and increase their dominance.

The software used by these traders has of course kept pace with the advances in computer hardware and is now very sophisticated.

Though they have been falling further and further behind their professional rivals, the outsider group of traders has remained undaunted and still persists in its attempts to succeed.

It is heartening to think that specialized trading knowledge and software that will enable this outsider group to compete on equal terms is at last gradually becoming available for purchase by the general public.

As time passes, there is no doubt that a larger proportion of private individuals trading their own money will achieve success and that gradually, the imbalance between private and professional traders will be altered.

The only thing in doubt is how long it will take to level the playing field but as long as private traders, especially newcomers are aware that they can obtain information to start them on the right track, they have every chance of success.

Commodity trading is an activity which demands knowledge which is too costly to obtain exclusively by learning from your own mistakes.
